Itinerary

Day 1: Firefly Falls, the Crags

The Tour de Tsitsikamma starts at Firefly Falls in the Crags, where everyone meets their crew and receives a brief orientation. Dinner is a traditional South African Braai served outdoors – a convivial setting for shared stories, building excitement for the adventure.

Day 2: Storms River to Tsitsikamma Mountain Biocamp

(Distance: 30kms / Elevation Gain: 680- 110m)

A brief breakfast followed by the shuttle to the start of the day’s ride. Todays route takes us through pine plantations and indigenous vegetation culminating in a final climb to our camp for the night in the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Along the route, riders are able to pause and take in the scenic vistas and enjoy a packed lunch set against the backdrop of the majestic Tsitsikamma mountains.

The remainder of the day invites relaxation, a chilled walk or a refreshing swim in the hidden pools of the Lottering River. Dinner is served overlooking the mountains before turning in. Glamping accommodation is in decked dome tents with comfy beds with solar lighting.

Day 3: Tsitsikamma Mountain to Bloukrans Gorge

(Distance: 35 – 45 kms / Elevation Gain: 200m)

After a healthy breakfast (freshly cut fruit, omlettes, toast, tea, coffee and homemade rusks), the group descends towards the coastal escarpment hugging the edge of the cliff just above the Otter Trail before turning inland through the historic Bloukrans Pass, and a quick swim at the river crossing.

Our day ends at Bloukrans River Gorge biocamp, strategically positioned to overlook the mouth of the Bloukrans River as it meets the Indian Ocean. With vistas extending towards Plettenberg Bay and the Robberg Peninsula, this is a captivating if not breathtaking backdrop for relaxation.

Dinner is served on the communal deck before everyone turns in for the night

Day 4: Bloukrans to Nature’s Valley

(Distance: 34 – 44kms / Elevation Gain: 350m)

Today’s leg is very much the “champagne stage” of the tour with easy riding through mountain fynbos down the Grootrivier Pass culminating at the Blue Rock Café in Nature’s Valley  – our lunch venue for a celebratory snack and drinks with time to reflect.

From Nature’s, the ride back to Firefly Falls is a chilled one taking us through the Tsitsikamma National Park coastal forest, and past diary farms.  Expect to see some of the most interesting fauna and flora, forests of indigenous trees and protected fynbos.

For those wanting to extend their long weekend, there is the option of spending an additional night at Firefly Falls (glamping accommodation, dinner and breakfast and even a hot bicarb bath for tired muscles). Otherwise you can hit the road and head home after a hot shower or a dip in the pool.
