A bit about us…
Welcome to the Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund
The Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund was officially established in January 2014 to provide much needed logistics support for the iMfolozi-Hluhluwe rhino Anit-Poaching and Game Capture units and the field rangers who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. These are the true guardians of the reserve – the men responsible for the safekeeping of South African rhino’s and the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured rhino’s.

Make a lasting impact
Having worked in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve for over ten years first as a Wilderness Guide and later as Conservation Manager, Frank Carlisle made the decision to give back to the individuals who make up the anti poaching units, the veterinary teams and the field rangers because these are the true Guardians of the Reserve, the unsung heroes of conservation and deserving recipients of the needs identified and required to minimize their risk in the line of duty, and maximise the care and conservation of the black and white rhino populations of the oldest game reserve in Africa.
REX ADVENTURE SERIES
Three really cool adventure experiences to add to your holiday checklist. What makes these extraordinary – all three have been developed and sponsored by leaders in their particular disciplines – MTB, Hiking and 4×4 Self Drive. All proceeds will be donated to the Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund. Check it out…

4×4 for Rex
Rhino Conservation is at the heart of what we do at Bhejane Adventures. Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund was established to provide meaningful targetted support to the people who operate on-the-ground in these reserves. This tour is 100% sponsored by Bhejane Adventures and all income from this 4×4 4 Rex Adventure Tour goes directly to the on-the-ground entities responsible for rhino conservation in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi
DATE: 10 – 14 April, 2025

Ride-4-Rex
You are literally riding for rhino conservation as all proceeds go towards the Field Rangers responsible for monitoring the parks wildlife, including black rhinos, to ensure their health and population growth. These men and women patrol the park’s fence lines working in challenging conditions, often at night, as the first line of defence against poaching and illegal activities. Proudly sponsored by Tour de Tsitsikamma
DATE: 3 – 6 April, 2025

Ramble-4-Rex
Sponsored by MTO Trails, 100% of the proceeds from this Hiking experience go to the Anti-Poaching Unit and Tracker Dogs of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve. These tracker dogs and their handlers form part of the anti-poaching strategy & are trained to track scents several hours old which are often used to follow rhino poachers into the park. Camera traps and detection fences also assist in the identification of potential suspects

Meet the Rex the Rhino Team

Frank Carlisle
Franks experience extends back to his time as a Wilderness Trail and later as a Conservation Manager in iMfolozi. After ten years quite literally in the field, he left the rolling hills of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi for the 4×4 self drive industry and started Bhejane Adventures and his latest endeavour along the Garden Route – Biocamps

Paul Cryer
Paul and Frank met during their guiding days at iMfolozi where Paul worked for 15 years. His experience includes work with the Wilderness Foundation, SANParks and the Wilderness Leadership School where he is a Trustee. Paul chairs the iMfolozi Wilderness Area Steering Committee on behalf of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and is a member of the KZN Wild Dog Advisory Group, but his personal career interest lies in the expansion of conservation areas for priority species and has included work with local South African communities to co-create innovative solutions for the socio-economic and environmental issues facing people and the environment.

Malcolm Organ
Much like Frank and Paul, Malcolm began his conservation career while guiding wilderness walking trails in Hluhluwe i-Mfolozi Game Reserve in the 1990’s. After spending many years in Rhino Conversation Management he left the KZN based organization and moved into commercial tourism conservation where he started On Safari Africa.
Keen to stay involved with iMfolozi the people so closely involved in rhino conservation in this area, Frank, Paul & Malcolm established Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund in order to give back to conservation and the heroes on the ground.
